Emotional Based School Anxiety (EBSA) or Anxiety Based School Avoidance (ASBA).
Neither are a choice- that’s a fact!
When a child or young person (C/YP) struggles with anxiety that affects their attendance at school, it is not something a parent has done or the home environment. It is not a case of “they’re fine in school, so it can’t be an issue”. The CYP has a real difficulty managing their anxiety around school, it has to be supported and identified early on.
This is one of the biggest misconceptions and misunderstandings by schools, and professionals. A lot assume that a child can’t possibly “mask” at school, or they’d show that they’re anxious at school.
